Semnan rugs are urban-style hand-knotted Persian carpets from the ancient city of Semnan on Iran’s historic Silk Road, known in the market since the late nineteenth century. These fine Persian rugs combine a cotton foundation with high-quality wool pile, woven with remarkable density and precision by skilled artisans using the asymmetric Persian knot.

Designs include allover “afshan” scatter florals and classic medallion layouts, with palettes playing in blues, reds, ivories, and greens. Production is relatively limited, making genuine Semnan examples particularly sought after by collectors.
