Where it comes from
This is a Ravar, the refined face of Kerman weaving from the town of Ravar near Kerman in Persia, sometimes traded as Lavar Kerman. At 169 x 112 cm (5'6" x 3'8") it is compact enough for a single spot in a home, drawn with the fine detail and quiet colour sense the town has been known for since the Qajar era.
What you see
The field opens in warm cream, scattered with small floral bouquets that never crowd the ground. At the centre sits a navy medallion with matching pendants above and below, so the eye runs straight through the middle of the rug rather than searching for it. Rosettes and cartouches fill a wide navy border, dense enough to hold its own against the pale field, taking up close to a fifth of the width. In the corners, a small run of diagonal stripes breaks quietly from the floral rhythm, a detail rather than a distraction.
How it was made
This rug is hand-knotted, in handspun wool over a cotton warp. Handspun wool takes up dye with small natural variations, which is part of why the reds and greens sit so gently rather than shouting the colour combination. At 201,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre, the weaver could draw the border's cartouches and the field's small stems with real precision, and a pile kept to 12 millimetres keeps that drawing crisp rather than letting it blur into the wool.

The low pile is smooth and slightly firm, suited to gentle rather than heavy use.
