Why Persian Rugs Are Sold in the Speicherstadt
Hamburg’s Speicherstadt — the world’s largest warehouse district and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — has been the centre of the European carpet trade for more than a century. Rugs arriving from Iran were stored, inspected and traded in these red-brick warehouses long before they reached a living room, and the trade never left.
Our gallery at Brooktorkai 8 sits inside that quarter. It is the reason you can see a rug in daylight, walk around it, and compare two pieces side by side before deciding — which no photograph replaces on a purchase meant to last decades.
Visits are by appointment, Monday to Friday, so that someone who knows the collection has time for you rather than half an hour between other customers.
