Patchwork Rugs

Patchwork rugs are a modern creation born from the careful recycling of antique and vintage Persian carpet fragments. When an old rug is too worn or damaged to be restored whole, skilled artisans cut the surviving sections into regular geometric pieces — squares, hexagons, diamonds — and hand-stitch them together with other salvaged fragments to create entirely new carpets. The result is a patchwork surface that reads as both antique and contemporary: aged wool with the authentic patina of decades or centuries, assembled into a fresh, deliberately composed design.

The aesthetic appeal of patchwork rugs lies in their controlled unpredictability: each piece is genuinely unique, its colors and patterns determined by whatever fragments happened to survive and were selected for assembly. A single patchwork rug might incorporate sections from a Kerman floral field, a Qashqai tribal border, a Hamadan village ground, and a Khorasan medallion — creating a visual conversation across regions and weaving traditions that no single original rug could achieve.

Beyond aesthetics, patchwork rugs represent a form of sustainable luxury: they extend the life of irreplaceable handmade textiles that might otherwise be discarded, and transform fragments carrying decades of craft and cultural memory into functional objects of beauty.
