Kordi Rugs
Kurdish Heritage Woven with Honest Strength
The Story
"Kordi" is simply the Kurdish word for Kurdish—these are rugs attributed broadly to Kurdish weavers across the vast arc of Kurdish-inhabited Iran, from Kurdistan and Kermanshah to Khorasan. Kurdish rugs are stout and solid in structure, woven with the symmetrical knot on a wool foundation, and carry a distinctive character that swings from bold geometric to softly floral depending on the regional sub-tradition.
The color palette tends toward deep, saturated hues: rich reds, indigo blues, warm golds and greens, with natural dye variation (abrash) adding organic life to the field. The pile is typically medium to high, hand-spun from locally grazed sheep, giving Kurdish rugs a warm, tactile quality that synthetic or urban weaving rarely matches.
A Kordi rug brings honest authenticity to any space—the direct, unmediated expression of Kurdish weaving culture at its most essential.
