Products & Authenticity
Are your rugs new or antique?
All rugs at RUGSOCIÉTÉ are newly handcrafted originals — not antiques. Each piece is hand-knotted by master artisans in Iran using traditional techniques and natural materials. They are brand-new works of art, never previously owned.
What provenances does RUGSOCIÉTÉ carry?
Our collection spans the full spectrum of Iranian weaving regions: Tabriz, Nain, Isfahan, Kashan, Qom, Heriz, Gabbeh, Baluch, Kashkuli, Bidjar, Turkmen, Sarouk, Kerman, Khorasan and many more — over 50 provenances in total.
How do I recognise a genuine hand-knotted rug?
Turn the rug over and look at the back: a genuine hand-knotted rug shows individual knots clearly visible as a slightly uneven texture. The pattern on the back mirrors the front almost exactly. Machine-made rugs have a uniform, grid-like backing.
What does knot density mean for Persian rugs?
Knot density (measured in knots per square metre) reflects the fineness and detail of the weave. City rugs like Nain or Qom can exceed 500,000 knots/m², producing incredibly intricate patterns. Tribal rugs typically have lower knot counts but are valued for their expressive designs and durability.
Are your rugs authentic?
Every rug in our collection is a genuine, handcrafted piece sourced directly from master artisans and weaving centers. Each purchase includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
Why is each rug unique?
Unlike machine-made carpets, every handcrafted Persian rug is a one-of-a-kind work of art. Variations in pattern, color, and texture are hallmarks of authenticity, not defects.
What materials are used?
Our rugs are made from the finest natural materials: hand-spun wool, silk, and cotton. Natural dyes derived from plants and minerals create colors that age beautifully.
Can I see a rug in person before buying?
Yes! Visit our showroom in Hamburg's Speicherstadt district by appointment. Contact us to schedule a private viewing.
Care & Maintenance
How do I clean my rug?
Regular vacuuming on a low setting (without a beater bar) is the best daily care. For spills, blot immediately — never rub. We recommend professional cleaning once a year.
Will the colors fade?
High-quality Persian rugs with natural dyes actually improve with age. To minimize uneven fading, rotate your rug every 6 months and avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure.
