Isfahan rugs come from the historic capital of the Safavid Empire in central Iran, a city the Persians call "Nesf-e Jahan" — Half the World. Knotted with the asymmetrical (Persian) knot, often on silk foundations, they are regarded as masterpieces of Persian city weaving for their intricate florals, graceful curves, and remarkable clarity of line.

The finest Isfahan pieces use kork wool — exceptionally soft fiber from the sheep's underbelly — combined with silk accents that create a luminous surface. Famous master weavers such as Seirafian and Haghighi sign their work, and their pieces are among the most densely knotted rugs produced anywhere.
