About This Nimbaft
Nimbaft is an unusual hybrid technique — the name means "half-knotted" in Farsi (nim = half, baft = weave). A kilim-style flatweave base is combined with dimensional wool elements worked on top, creating a low-relief textured surface that is neither fully knotted pile nor purely flat. This is one of the rarest weaving techniques from the Iranian tribal tradition.
Geometric patterns and layered tile designs create a distinctive square-textured surface. The lightweight construction makes Nimbaft pieces easy to place or layer. The textural quality feels artisanal and contemporary despite the ancient technique.
Measuring 225 × 175 cm, with an area of 3.94 m², crafted from Hand-spun Wool, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship. The knot density of 201 000 - 250 000 / m² speaks to the extraordinary care woven into every inch.
Preserved in perfect condition, a rare and distinctive textile — where kilim meets knotted pile in a uniquely textural piece.
