Esfarayen rugs come from the city of Esfarayen in North Khorasan Province, northeastern Iran, where Kurdish communities maintain a strong weaving tradition. Knotted on cotton foundations with the asymmetrical (Persian) knot, they combine Kurdish geometric influences with the broader Khorasan design vocabulary.

Sturdy wool, clear geometry, and a grounded regional colour sense characterise these pieces. They favour honest, craft-led aesthetics over urban refinement, a more folk expression of the rich Khorasan weaving heritage.
