Kashkouli rugs are produced by the Kashkouli sub-tribe of the Qashqai confederacy in Fars Province, southern Iran. Woven with the symmetrical (Turkish) knot on horizontal ground looms, they represent the finest tier of Qashqai weaving, achieving knot densities that are exceptionally high for nomadic production.
Only the finest mountain sheep wool is selected, often enhanced with plant-based natural dyes in warm reds and golden tones. The designs combine tribal spirit with a more intricate, sometimes curvilinear drawing that feels elevated beyond typical nomadic work, small-ornamental compositions with diamond and hexagonal medallions.
More on Lori-Kashkouli rugs: origin, making and how to recognise a genuine piece
Measuring 328 × 248 cm, with an area of 8.13 m², crafted from Hand-spun Wool, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship.
Preserved in perfect condition, the finest expression of qashqai weaving, where nomadic authenticity meets collector-grade refinement.
At 328 × 248 cm (8.13 m²) this is a very large rug. It carries a whole seating group with every furniture leg on it, or a dining table with the chairs pushed back. In a small room it becomes the floor rather than a rug.
Yes, knotted by hand — knot by knot on a loom, not machine-made.
Hand-spun wool still carries its own lanolin, which keeps liquid sitting on the surface for a moment: blot quickly, with clear water and a light cloth, working inwards and without rubbing. Otherwise regular vacuuming along the pile is enough. Turn the rug once or twice a year so light and footfall reach it evenly.
