About This Lori-Pars
Where it comes from
A Lori-Pars rug, 307 x 226 cm (10'1" x 7'5"), woven by nomadic weavers of the Zagros mountains in southern Iran. Rugs from this tribal background are usually known for bold colour and confident geometric motifs, knotted from memory rather than from a drawn plan. This piece takes the opposite path: it carries no motif at all, and that absence is precisely what makes it worth pausing on.
What you see
The field is a warm sand beige with a caramel undertone, and it holds no pattern in the usual sense. What moves across it instead is a soft vertical striping, lighter and darker bands of the same camel colour, running the length of the rug like grain in wood. The border is barely there, a narrow strip in almost the same tone as the field, so the rug reads as one continuous surface rather than a field framed by an edge. Nothing interrupts the calm of it.
How it was made
That striping is not a design choice in the way a border or a medallion would be. It comes from the wool itself: hand-spun by the weaver rather than machine-spun to a uniform thickness, it takes dye a little unevenly along its length, and the result is the gentle abrash that runs through the field. At a density of 201,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre and an 11 mm pile, the weave is close enough to hold a soft matte surface while still letting that natural variation show through, which is exactly the point of a piece like this. Nothing here was drawn to look imperfect; it simply was never drawn at all.
At home
A rug this size suits a living room, anchoring a seating group or sitting under a low table where its quiet warmth can do the work without competing for attention. Against a pale floor it adds depth without adding colour that has to be matched; against darker furniture it holds its own quietly rather than receding. Underfoot the pile is soft but dense enough for daily footsteps, a rug made to be walked on rather than kept for best. As the light in the room shifts through the day, the vertical striping catches it differently hour to hour, so the surface never quite settles into one flat colour.
