Lori rugs are woven by the Lur people of Lorestan Province in the Zagros Mountains of western Iran, a semi-nomadic tribe with over three thousand years of weaving heritage. Constructed on cotton or traditional wool foundations, these robust tribal pieces feature bold geometric designs in rich, saturated colours drawn from natural dyes.
Diamond medallions, hexagonal motifs, and stylised animals appear in deep indigos, warm reds, and earthy browns, colours that reflect the rugged mountain terrain. The thick, lustrous pile from hand-spun highland wool provides exceptional warmth and durability underfoot. This particular piece has been enhanced with luxurious silk accents, lending the rug a subtle luminescence and exceptional tactile quality.
More on Lori-Pars rugs: origin, making and how to recognise a genuine piece
Measuring 307 × 251 cm, with an area of 7.71 m², crafted from Wool with Silk, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship. The knot density of 381,000 – 440,000 / m² speaks to the extraordinary care woven into every inch.
Preserved in perfect condition, authentic nomadic character with lasting warmth, lori rugs bring the spirit of the zagros mountains into your home. As an exclusive piece from our collection, it represents a true collector's item.
Superior craftsmanship
At 307 × 251 cm (7.71 m²) this is a large rug. It sits under a seating group with the front legs of sofa and chairs on it, or under a dining table for four. A table for six wants about 80 cm of clearance all round, and needs more.
Yes, knotted by hand — knot by knot on a loom, not machine-made. The density is 381,000 to 440,000 knots per square metre; across 7.71 m² that is roughly 2.9 to 3.4 million individual knots, every one of them tied by hand.
This pile contains silk and is more delicate than pure wool. Vacuum without a rotating brush and along the pile, do not beat it, and keep it out of permanent direct sun. Blot spills at once with a light cloth, never rub. For a proper clean a silk-blend rug belongs in expert hands — we handle that for pieces bought from us.
