About This Lori-Pars
Where it comes from
A Lori-Pars, a tribal weaving from the Zagros mountains of Persia, sized 237 x 168 cm (7'9" x 5'6"). Rugs of this family are usually loved for their bold, simplified motifs, knotted from memory onto a portable loom. This one takes that same tribal hand and puts it to something far quieter: a grid.
What you see
The field is a warm honey beige, divided by thin brown lines into a plain grid of rectangles, with no other motif to distract from it. There is no medallion, no border of any real weight, just a narrow ivory strip overcasting the edge, more a finish than a frame. Look closer and the calm surface stops being quite so flat. Each cell carries fine vertical striations, a streaky, hand-spun texture that gives the beige a quiet movement it would not have if the wool were machine-spun and even.
How it was made
That texture is not decoration added on top; it is what hand-spinning does. Wool spun by hand varies slightly in thickness along its length, and when it is dyed and knotted that variation carries through as subtle tonal streaking, the kind no mill-spun yarn produces. Knotted at 201,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre with a pile of 11 mm, the weave sits low and even, which is exactly what lets a design this plain read as crisp rather than sparse. A bolder Lori pattern would fight for attention here; a grid simply holds its lines and lets the wool do the talking.
