About This Shiraz
Shiraz rugs take their name from the capital of Fars Province in southern Iran, the city of poets, gardens, and one of Persia's most important rug bazaars. "Shiraz" is a market name covering rugs woven by various tribal and village groups in the region, including Qashqai, Khamseh, and Afshar weavers, traditionally on wool foundations.
Bold geometric designs dominate, central diamond medallions or series of interconnected diamonds in deep reds, indigo blues, and warm earth tones. The relatively coarse knotting and hand-spun wool give Shiraz rugs their characteristic rustic charm and exceptional durability.
Measuring 305 × 208 cm, with an area of 6.34 m², crafted from Hand-spun Wool, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship. The knot density of 128 000 - 160 000 / m² speaks to the extraordinary care woven into every inch.
Preserved in perfect condition, robust and affordable, shiraz rugs are an excellent entry point into authentic persian tribal weaving.
