About This Shiraz
Shiraz rugs take their name from the capital of Fars Province in southern Iran — the city of poets, gardens, and one of Persia's most important rug bazaars. "Shiraz" is a market name covering rugs woven by various tribal and village groups in the region, including Qashqai, Khamseh, and Afshar weavers, traditionally on wool foundations.
Bold geometric designs dominate — central diamond medallions or series of interconnected diamonds in deep reds, indigo blues, and warm earth tones. The relatively coarse knotting and hand-spun wool give Shiraz rugs their characteristic rustic charm and exceptional durability.
Measuring 305 × 208 cm, with an area of 6.34 m², crafted from Hand-spun Wool, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship. The knot density of 128 000 - 160 000 / m² speaks to the extraordinary care woven into every inch.
Preserved in perfect condition, robust and affordable, shiraz rugs are an excellent entry point into authentic persian tribal weaving.
