About This Bakhtiar
Bakhtiari rugs are woven by the Bakhtiari people in the Chahar Mahal region of west-central Iran, in the villages around Shahr-e Kord at the foot of the Zagros Mountains. Knotted on a cotton foundation with sturdy, hand-spun wool, they are robust village pieces built for generations of everyday use.
The signature Bakhtiari design is the kheshti, or garden panel: a grid of square compartments, each filled with a different tree, flower or bird motif, in warm reds, indigo, gold and green. It is one of the most instantly recognisable and cheerful layouts in all of Persian weaving.
Measuring 315 × 215 cm, with an area of 6.77 m², crafted from Hand-spun Wool, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship. The knot density of 128 000 - 160 000 / m² speaks to the extraordinary care woven into every inch.
Preserved in perfect condition, robust, warm and full of character, a bakhtiari brings a whole garden of motifs into the home.
