About This Afschari
Afshar rugs are semi-nomadic weavings from the Afshar people — a Turkic-origin tribe settled in southern Iran, primarily around Kerman Province in the Zagros foothills. Their weaving reflects a fascinating blend of Turkic heritage and Persian influence, with both symmetrical (Turkish) and asymmetrical (Persian) knots documented depending on the specific settlement.
Bold geometric designs with miniature boteh motifs, generous layouts, and influences from Kerman, Turkmen, Caucasian, and Qashqai traditions create a distinctive, eclectic aesthetic. The sturdy construction on wool or cotton foundation ensures excellent durability for everyday use.
Measuring 199 × 149 cm, with an area of 2.97 m², crafted from Hand-spun Wool, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship. The knot density of 441 000 - 500 000 / m² speaks to the extraordinary care woven into every inch.
Preserved in perfect condition, a compelling blend of turkic tribal energy and persian refinement — robust and collectible.
