About This Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are woven by Qashqai nomadic tribes in the Zagros Mountains of Fars Province, southwest Iran. The name means "raw" or "unfinished" in Persian, reflecting their deliberately simple, primitive aesthetic. With thick, long pile of up to 2.5 cm and bold, abstract designs, they stand apart from the fine city weaving tradition.
Each Gabbeh is a personal expression — hand-spun wool dyed with natural plant pigments creates saturated earthy colors and simple geometric fields. Animal motifs, stick figures, and blocks of pure color appear freehand, with no two pieces alike.
Measuring 292 × 203 cm, with an area of 5.93 m², crafted from Hand-spun Wool, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship.
Preserved in perfect condition, the thick pile provides exceptional softness underfoot, making gabbeh rugs a favourite for living rooms and bedrooms where comfort meets authentic artistry.
