About This Ardabil
Heriz rugs come from the town of Heriz and surrounding villages in East Azerbaijan Province, northwest Iran, at the foot of Mount Sabalan. Woven with the symmetrical (Turkish) knot on a cotton foundation, they are known for their bold, angular geometric medallions and outstanding durability — the local mineral-rich water is believed to give the wool its exceptional resilience.
The designs are distinctly rectilinear — large, angular medallions with jagged vine-work, corner spandrels, and bold floral motifs in vibrant terracotta, indigo, and ivory. Among the most "architectural" of Persian rugs, Heriz pieces are almost always large format and exceptionally sturdy.
Measuring 274 × 167 cm, with an area of 4.58 m², crafted from Hand-spun Wool, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship. The knot density of 201 000 - 250 000 / m² speaks to the extraordinary care woven into every inch.
Preserved in perfect condition, ideal for high-traffic living spaces and dining rooms where beauty must meet everyday practicality.
