About This Tabriz
Tabriz rugs come from the capital of East Azerbaijan Province in northwest Iran, one of the oldest and most important weaving centers in Persia. Knotted with the symmetrical (Turkish) knot on a cotton foundation, they produce a tight, firm fabric with exceptional definition. Quality is measured in "Raj" — knots per 7 cm of warp — with grades ranging from everyday 40 Raj to museum-quality 70 Raj and above.
Tabriz offers the widest design repertoire of any Persian provenance — from classic medallions and floral gardens to pictorial scenes and "Four Seasons" compositions. The finest examples use kork wool from the sheep's neck for an especially soft, lustrous pile, often enhanced with silk highlights.
Measuring 302 × 197 cm, with an area of 5.95 m², crafted from Wool with Silk, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship.
Preserved in perfect condition, for over five centuries, tabriz has set the benchmark for persian carpet excellence.
