About This Garrous
Garrous is a historical name for the Bidjar weaving district in Kurdistan Province, northwestern Iran. Rugs labelled "Garrous" come from the same Kurdish highland region that produces the famous Bidjar "Iron Rugs" — woven with the symmetrical (Turkish) knot using the distinctive wet-weaving technique that creates an exceptionally dense, heavy structure.
Bold geometry, rich deep colours, and the characteristic compact weave of the Bidjar tradition define these pieces. The wool is dampened and hammered during weaving, then shrinks as it dries, producing a rug with exceptional weight, firmness, and durability built to last generations.
Measuring 260 × 164 cm, with an area of 4.26 m², crafted from Hand-spun Wool, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship.
Preserved in perfect condition, the bidjar tradition under its historical name — kurdish highland craftsmanship at its most enduring.
