About This Lori-Pars
Where it comes from
Lori-Pars rugs come from nomadic weavers in the Zagros mountains of Iran, knotted by hand from memory rather than from any drawn plan, and this one measures 292 x 198 cm (9'7" x 6'6"). The type is known for bold, simplified motifs and confident, self-assured colour — yet what stands before you here reads less like tribal work and more like a piece of modern graphic design.
What you see
The field runs in warm sand beige and caramel, without a medallion or any traditional motif to anchor it. Instead, vertical bands of tan, cream and light brown stripe the surface in varying widths, arranged across three horizontal sections with subtle shifts from one to the next. There is no separate border to frame the design — the stripes simply run to the edge, giving the whole piece a continuous, unbroken rhythm. The surface itself is matt and finely ribbed, close and tight rather than deep.
How it was made
That closeness is the result of a low pile rather than no pile at all: hand-knotted at a density of 201,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre, with handspun wool carried over a natural wool warp to a pile height of just 11 millimetres. Handspun yarn is never perfectly uniform in thickness, and it is this that gives the stripes their gentle variation in width rather than a ruled, machine-drawn evenness. Knotted from memory rather than a fixed cartoon, the small shifts between the three sections are the record of a weaver working section by section over months at the loom, not a flaw to be excused.
