About This Sannandadj
Senneh rugs come from the city of Sanandaj, historically called Senneh, in Kurdistan Province, western Iran. Unlike the heavy Bidjar rugs of the same region, Senneh pieces are remarkably fine, thin and light. They are woven with a single weft and a very short, tight pile, which gives the reverse a characteristic granular feel, and the asymmetric knot is worked in exceptional density for a Kurdish weave.
The classic Senneh design is an all-over Herati (Mahi) field or a fine diamond medallion, drawn with great delicacy in soft reds, indigo blues and ivory. The single-weft construction and short pile give the surface unusual clarity and a light, supple handle that sets Senneh apart from every other Kurdish rug.
Measuring 148 × 113 cm, with an area of 1.67 m², crafted from Hand-spun Wool, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship. The knot density of 201 000 - 250 000 / m² speaks to the extraordinary care woven into every inch.
Preserved in perfect condition, among the most refined of all kurdish rugs, a senneh combines tribal heritage with city-level fineness.
