About This Isfahan

Isfahan rugs come from the historic capital of the Safavid Empire in central Iran, a city the Persians call "Nesf-e Jahan", Half the World. Knotted with the asymmetrical (Persian) knot, often on silk foundations, they are regarded as masterpieces of Persian city weaving for their intricate florals, graceful curves, and remarkable clarity of line.

The finest Isfahan pieces use kork wool, exceptionally soft fiber from the sheep's underbelly, combined with silk accents that create a luminous surface. Famous master weavers such as Seirafian and Haghighi sign their work, and their pieces are among the most densely knotted rugs produced anywhere. This particular piece has been enhanced with luxurious silk accents, lending the rug a subtle luminescence and exceptional tactile quality. The master weaver has signed this piece, a mark of exceptional quality and pride in their craft.

Questions about this rug

Which room is this rug for?

At 235 × 171 cm (4.02 m²) this is a medium rug. It works in front of a sofa, in front of a bed or in a study. It is too small for a dining table — there you want about 80 cm of clearance so a chair does not tip over the edge when pushed back.

Is this rug hand-knotted?

Yes, knotted by hand — knot by knot on a loom, not machine-made. The density is 800,000 to 1,000,000 knots per square metre; across 4.02 m² that is roughly 3.2 to 4.0 million individual knots, every one of them tied by hand.

How do I care for this rug?

This pile contains silk and is more delicate than pure wool. Vacuum without a rotating brush and along the pile, do not beat it, and keep it out of permanent direct sun. Blot spills at once with a light cloth, never rub. For a proper clean a silk-blend rug belongs in expert hands — we handle that for pieces bought from us.
