Nain rugs originate from the town of Nain in Isfahan Province, central Iran, near the edge of the Dasht-e Kavir desert. Knotted with the asymmetrical (Persian) knot on a cotton foundation, they are renowned for their refined floral arabesques and the unmistakable ivory-and-blue palette that has become their signature.
Nain pieces use exceptionally fine wool, often highlighted with white silk threads that accentuate the floral details and lend a subtle sheen. Quality is graded by the "La" system, thread count per strand, where lower numbers (4La, 6La) indicate finer knotting and higher density. This particular piece has been enhanced with luxurious silk accents, lending the rug a subtle luminescence and exceptional tactile quality.
More on Nain rugs: origin, making and how to recognise a genuine piece
Measuring 250 × 200 cm, with an area of 5.00 m², crafted from Wool with Silk, Hand-knotted, this piece is a testament to masterful craftsmanship. The knot density of 441,000 – 500,000 / m² speaks to the extraordinary care woven into every inch.
Preserved in perfect condition, the timeless palette of ivory, soft blue, and beige creates an understated elegance that suits any interior.
Exceptionally fine weave
At 250 × 200 cm (5.00 m²) this is a large rug. It sits under a seating group with the front legs of sofa and chairs on it, or under a dining table for four. A table for six wants about 80 cm of clearance all round, and needs more.
Yes, knotted by hand — knot by knot on a loom, not machine-made. The density is 441,000 to 500,000 knots per square metre; across 5.00 m² that is roughly 2.2 to 2.5 million individual knots, every one of them tied by hand.
This pile contains silk and is more delicate than pure wool. Vacuum without a rotating brush and along the pile, do not beat it, and keep it out of permanent direct sun. Blot spills at once with a light cloth, never rub. For a proper clean a silk-blend rug belongs in expert hands — we handle that for pieces bought from us.
