Where it comes from
A Tabriz rug, 251 x 167 cm (8'3" x 5'6"), from the Persian city long regarded as the benchmark for precision weaving. Tabriz workshops are known for classical medallion design and for a command of colour balance so exact it has become the city's signature — which makes this piece unusual, because here that balance is built almost entirely from one tone.
What you see
The first impression is of a warm ivory field, and it stays that way as the eye moves across it. A dense floral scrollwork covers the ground, gathered around a small central medallion and echoed by bouquets anchored in each corner, but there is no strong medallion-and-spandrel contrast to catch the eye first. Blue-grey, sage and camel appear only as quiet accents within the flowers, with the occasional touch of dusty rose or rust. The border sits a shade darker than the field, held in by narrow sage-green and beige guard stripes, and the whole piece reads through texture and the fall of light rather than through colour contrast.
How it was made
That reading is only possible because of how finely it is knotted. A silk warp lets the weaver tie a much tighter symmetric knot than wool alone would allow, and here the density runs to 501,000–640,000 knots per square metre — work that occupies a loom for many months. The pile itself is wool over silk, kept low at 7 mm, and a soft sheen gathers in the floral motifs where the silk catches light differently to the wool around it. This is what carries the drawing in a rug with so little colour to lean on, and it is signed by the Taraghi workshop, a mark of a piece made to be recognised rather than anonymous.

At 251 x 167 cm it suits a living room seating group or a smaller dining table, somewhere it will be seen close rather than crossed. Against pale floors the ivory holds its warmth without competing; against darker furniture it reads as calm rather than plain. Underfoot the dense knotting gives a firm, even surface that takes daily use comfortably. As daylight moves across it through the day, the sheen in the flowers shifts and quietly makes the pattern reappear.
