About This Tabriz
Where it comes from
This is a hand-knotted Tabriz, also spelled Täbris, from the city of that name in north-western Iran, one of Persia's oldest and most established weaving centres. It measures 247 x 165 cm (8'1" x 5'5"). Tabriz workshops are known for the symmetric knot, for a repertoire running from classical medallions to pictorial compositions, and for a fineness of drawing few other cities match. This one is unusually pale for the type.
What you see
A soft salmon-pink field opens the rug, quiet enough that the eye settles at once on a round medallion drawn in blue, cream and rust, floating rather than anchored by any visible centre point. Dense floral scrollwork surrounds it, worked in powder blue and dusty rose with touches of ochre and olive, each stem outlined in grey-brown. A wide ivory-cream border carries the same floral scroll at greater density, held in by narrow salmon guard stripes that echo the field and keep the whole composition calm rather than heavy.
How it was made
The pastel palette owes as much to material as to choice. A silk warp spins finer than cotton, letting the Taraghi workshop tie the Tabriz knot at 501,000 to 640,000 knots per square metre — enough to carry the medallion's curve and the scroll's smallest stems without a blurred line, and fine enough for gradual pastel rather than flat blocks of colour. Wool carries the pile, silk running through it for a faint sheen, clipped to seven millimetres. The piece is signed, the work of months at the loom.

At 247 x 165 cm this suits a bedroom, or a quiet corner of a living room rather than a full dining setting. The salmon and cream soften a pale floor and hold their own against dark wood. Underfoot the weave is tight and firm, dense enough for daily use rather than display. Afternoon light catches the silk in the pile, and the pastel tones seem to shift with it.
